Rebung Rebung Rebung

Alamak! It's Rebung - first time, authentic Malay Food, Chef Ismail was so accommodating. Well it was an early lunch about 12.00 noon (normal office lunch time is 1.00), my colleagues and I went to Rebung Restaurant in Bangsar. The seating in the house was already booked. We are not so willing to sit outside the foyer as it is really a hot day today. Somehow Chef Ismail got us a little space in the house which is air-conditioned. Thank you Chef! We said we will eat fast and he said 'No, please take your time and enjoy yourself. First, we ordered the drinks - syrup with coconut (I dont know what it was called I just said yes coz it was hot). It was not full house yet when we came in about 5 mins before but when I turned around I saw the crowd started pulling in and I rushed to sample the food. I sampled all the kerabu's - taugeh, pucuk paku, pucuk ubi, something tempoyak, entah apa lagi with very little rice, the bergedil (potato cutlet), patin fish gravy, perut masak lemak and the Ikan Keli bakar - that was the first round, I wanted to try so much the terung cili, patin fish, masak asam pedas, rendang, ikan cencaru bakar (my memory is not so good coz my eyes were wild looking everywhere). I decided to try the Laksa (my boss had the Laksa and said its really good), so I must try - it's worth it (though I have tasted Laksa buatan sendiri by my friend's late father). Not bad! Must try the popiah - Chef personally made Popiah with his own hands - Ok lah although the sauce is not as good as the Wangsa Melawati popiah but its good and fresh. By the time I finished the laksa - I was so fulllllllll. My colleague had just finished her 3rd Keli bakar, my boss want to ' jaga badan' I guess - eating very small portion of everything. I thought he was finished then he got up to the desert counter, some kuih talam ubi, kaswi and mata ikan tingy and bubur labu - you guys must try this - it's good he promotes. I went over to the desert counter - took that pretty little cute bowl and trying to scoop the bubur and then my nose was distracted by the smell (I dont know how my nose can detect this cause I have a faulty nose) ehh its bubur durian with pulut - the smell was so overpowering that I corner from labu to durian. How I wish my good friends Ram & Rosie were here to sample this. Nanti I belanja okay! What happened! go back and try the labu - ehh everything also taste so good lah. Dont worry Jeff you will be going there too. Chef - good work all good, wish I had a bigger tummy and time to tuck in all the wonderful dishes.

Famous Thai Restaurant Shah Alam Experience

A 'new' makan place in Section 9, Shah Alam - Restoran Famous Thai - looks quite grand from outside, is it a new place, must try - my sis is so crazy about Tom Yam (she will start one Tom Yam Blog, soon I guess as soon as she is free - this can be ages) so I said I try first bcoz - I like to try makan in new places but she is the critic - damn, this is not as good as the other restaurant and this will be the first and the last. Anyway, we took the family and went - ordered - of course we will time them from the time they took the order. 25 minutes later, the steam fish came (small) , tau foo crabmeat (medium - so salty) then the Chicken (medium - so sour) and the asparagus belacan (small) I dont know why it was so bitter must be the belacan they used. Ordered chinese tea - never came until we reminded them. The rice itself was okay, although we did not try so many dishes, it was just enough to turn us off. The dining plates out of 7 served 3 was chipped off. The service was oklah bcoz clearing was very fast. Cashier also calculate quite fast - then the bill came - RM163.00 plus plus. Lets's just stick to Orchid Thai Restaurant - for RM150.00 you can eat a whole lot more than that and the Tom Yam we can recommend you - it's excellent. I should not be so critical - hah - the cili padi with soy sauce was quite good though in Famous Thai and that's it.
